This
canvas is dedicated to my brothers and sisters, the #DREAMers. Without
knowing what the future holds for them, I want them to know that they are not
alone, and that so many of us continue to fight with our voices for their
future. DREAMers contribute greatly to our communities and belong in the U.S. as the
only home they’ve ever known. I want us all to remain optimistic and fearless that a bipartisan DREAM
act will soon provide these young men and women with a path to citizenship that
they deserve.
I was inspired by this beautiful new song, Fearless, written by the great Lin-Manuel Miranda, and sung by Mandy Gonzalez. It's barely been released, but here's just a taste of it.
That is the FEARLESS half of the challenge.
The GRUNGE is the other half.
I apologize for the excessive amount of close-ups, but it's very hard to capture the gorgeous shimmer of the blue, green, and brown metallic paint.
I love the color combination of brown with almost any color, but especially blue and green.
I've layered random-sized pieces of patterned paper, and I've etched some of their edges with a white pen. I applied the brown, blue, and green metallic paints with a sponge.
You may be able to see some of the tiniest mechanical parts that I could find.
I've made my own stencil for diamonds that I added with texture paste.
The rest is metal and chip, some glass pieces, a splash of white ink, and just one flower for good measure ;)
